“It’s the very first in North America,” said Mary Wiener, ECO Manager for Specialty Sports Venture, the corporate backbone to over 140 sporting goods stores including Bicycle Village, Colorado Ski & Golf and Breeze Rentals.
Skiers and snowboarders are encouraged to clean out their closets and garages and bring those used planks, boots, and other ski equipment for recycling. Items that can still be used for their original purpose will be refurbished and donated to charitable organizations for children. All remaining materials will be upcycled to create other products such as playground and park turf and equipment.
According to an August 18 article in the Denver Post, Colorado Ski & Golf locations will begin charging a small recycling fee on new ski and snowboard purchases to fund the program.
A formal public announcement of the program will be made shortly after Labor Day.
