Yes, I did 2000 jumping jacks yesterday:

To honor Twittercize’s 2000th follower on Twitter, I decided to do 2000 jumping jacks.  There were tweets of doubt, demands for video to confirm my actions, and ample warnings about the “impossible” challenge.  Here’s a tweet from @ECS_Dave, the 2000th follower:

ECS_Dave @twittercize I’m almost certain you know this, but… Stretch, plenty of fluids, and “fuel”, and you’ll be better for it… LOL ;=)

If I attempted 2000 jumping jacks all at once, it would likely take an hour or more.  As a stay-at-home father and freelance writer, I rarely have a whole hour to carve out of my busy days.  Ironically, what many thought was too much (2000 Jumping Jacks) is exactly what most fitness experts expect everyday people to do several times each week–at least an hour of exercise.

Instead, I twittercized—breaking 2000 jumping jacks into smaller sets of 100-250 jumping jacks at a time—and was able to take care of my daily tasks without much interruption.

Here’s what’s really amazing: I finished all 2000 in under 25 minutes total! Because I did a little at a time, I was able to move at a much higher cadence, elevating my heartrate but avoiding fatigue.  My shoulders and calves are certainly sore, but twittercizing made the “impossible” quite possible.

For those of you that say “there’s no time to exercise,” create your own personal challenge this week.  One minute per hour max.  You can do jumping jacks, jog in place, try situps or pushups.  If you’re looking for help, you can follow Twittercize on Twitter.  But don’t say you can’t.  It’s simply not true and you deserve to take care of yourself!

So, in honor of my 2000+ followers, here’s my video of 2000 jumping jacks in one day–at home, at the grocery store, at the park, even in a light rain–condensed to only 1 minute, 25 seconds.  Sorry for my lousy video skills.

Thanks for inspiring me!
