First, the bad news: the auctioneer doesn’t look like this:
Now the good news: the University of Denver abandoned bike auction is one of Denver’s best events to find used bikes on the cheap. In addition to impounding the usual assortment of bicycles that students abandon on campus, DU enforces a strict U-lock only policy that gives them authority to snatch up bikes with cable locks.
That means, occasionally, some glittering gems can be found at this semi-annual auction. And the less than desirable bicycles are inevitably given away for next to nothing (can you say $2 bicycle?) at the sale’s end—which translates to bike part heaven if that’s your thing.
All proceeds support the University of Denver bicycle program.
