Office Politics Vocabulary: Ass-Kissinger

"Who loves you, baby?"

"Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac." --Henry Kissinger

Ass-Kissinger:

A person of middle-level management who seeks power by pandering to both upper management and lower rank employees, typically through passive aggressive methods, often playing one side against the other in isolated meetings.

Named in honor of Henry Kissinger, who infamously played both sides of the 1968 election to gain a position in the winning presidential cabinet.

Example: Joe is an assistant director responsible for reporting executive policies to  his employees.  When the executive director decides to eliminate Casual Friday, Joe tells his boss, “Great idea, boss. Formal attire will create formal attitudes—people get lazy on Fridays.”  When announcing the change to his employees, however, Joe explains, “Well, you know, the executive director thinks casual attire will make you less productive, so that’s just the way it is.  I’m sorry.”
